Did Raven-Symone out herself with a Tweet?

Celebs

Has former "Cosby Show" and "That's So Raven" star Raven-Symone outed herself with a single Tweet? Here's the comment in question, which was posted on Friday:

Last year, the National Enquirer wrote a story indicating she was living with former "America's Top Model" contestant AzMarie Livingston. At the time, she tweeted, "My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I'm dating to know. I'm not one for a public display of my life."

In a statement to E! News after her most recent Tweet, however, she said, "I am very happy that gay marriage is opening up around the country and is being accepted. I was excited to hear today that more states legalized gay marriage. I, however am not currently getting married, but it is great to know I can now, should I wish to."

The actress, who got her start in 1989 at age 3 on "The Cosby Show" as Olivia Kendall, has worked steadily since. She debuted on Broadway in 2012 as the lead in "Sister Act."

Her over 482,000 followers on Twitter have largely been supportive; one asked, "Can I have your spot in the Cheetah Girls? Disney might not like you anymore."

Akouris: Cullen Rompa working toward strong season, making college plans

There is no rest for the weary this summer, especially if you?re Cullen Rompa.

The Plainfield East senior is just one of many football players in the area who are going through 7-on-7 camps, trying to figure out what college to visit and which ones to put on their wish lists, and working out and bulking up for the season ahead.

Football practice statewide officially begins Aug. 14

And Rompa is getting himself ahead of the game.

?I?ve been in the weight room every day and I?ve gone to a lot of camps,? Rompa said. ?This year, I?m doing a lot of speed work, too, working on the time in the 40 (-yard dash).

?I?m trying to keep a good, main set of goals, and I know I have to dig deep and focus.?

Rompa, a 5-foot-10, 182-pound running back/linebacker, knows he?s going to have to focus a lot if the Bengals are going to improve on last season?s 2-7 record.

The senior class should help erase those bad memories. They went 7-2 as freshmen and 6-3 as sophomores. It would seem likely this class won?t allow the loss total to fall below three.

The Bengals already have had a decent showing at the 7-on-7 camp at Willowbrook, where they went two-for-two and beat perennial state power Lemont.

?We were supposed to go far (in 2012), but this year I think our speed has increased,? Rompa said. ?We lost some size and gained a lot of speed.?

Rompa also is dealing with the stress of trying to impress college coaches. He doesn?t really have a timetable to make his college choice, and some athletes want to make that decision before the start of the school year. Rompa said he will make his pick when he knows a school is the right fit.

That said, Rompa has a top five list. In order, his wish list is: Upper Iowa, St. Cloud State, Concordia (Minn.), Dartmouth and Sacred Heart.

What Rompa really wants to do is play football with older brother Brennen, who is at Upper Iowa ? hence, the school being his top choice.

Before Brennen leaves for Upper Iowa in another week or two, the brothers are working out often. The brothers typically work out in a field behind their home.

?Brennen is my main (training partner) right now,? Rompa said. ?He is teaching me a lot. Last year I didn?t play much linebacker and he did.?

Besides Upper Iowa and the other four schools on Rompa?s top five, others that have shown interest in Brennen?s younger brother are Indiana State, Western Illinois, Colgate, Northern Illinois and Hillsdale (Mich.).

I asked Rompa, ?What if you get an offer from another school and you?re more blown away by that campus and program and it eclipses playing with your brother??

?I?m going with whatever feels like my second home,? Rompa said. ?It?ll definitely be difficult (being alone), and it would be great to play with Brennen. But sometimes being alone does sound interesting, too.

?I never thought it would be possible for us to maybe play together. I just always thought we?d be on opposite sides of the country.?

Tea party plans to abandon GOP stars

MIAMI (AP) ? This wasn't the revolution the tea party had in mind.

Four years ago, the movement and its potent mix of anger and populism persuaded thousands of costumed and sign-waving conservatives to protest the ballooning deficit and President Obama's health care law. It swept a crop of no-compromise lawmakers into Congress and governor's offices and transformed political up-and-comers, including Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, into household names.

But as many tea party stars seek re-election next year and Rubio considers a 2016 presidential run, conservative activists are finding themselves at a crossroads. Many of their standard-bearers have embraced more moderate positions on bedrock issues such as immigration and health care, broadening their appeal in swing states but dampening grass-roots passion.

"They keep sticking their finger in the eyes of the guys who got them elected," said Ralph King, a co-founder of the Cleveland Tea Party Patriots. "A lot of people are feeling betrayed."

The tea party is a loosely knit web of activists, and some are hoping to rekindle the fire with 2014 primary challenges to wayward Republicans. But many more say they plan to sit out high-profile races in some important swing states next year, a move that GOP leaders fear could imperil the re-election prospects of former tea party luminaries, including the governors of Florida and Ohio.

"It changes the playing field for us," said Tom Gaitens, former Florida director of FreedomWorks, a political action committee that has spent millions of dollars to help tea party candidates. "The most powerful thing we have as a movement is our feet and our vote."

In the summer of 2009, tea party supporters stormed congressional town hall meetings, shouting down lawmakers who had voted for the bank bailout and the stimulus package. The movement's voice grew louder after Democrats passed the health care overhaul, and voters took their outrage to the polls in 2010. The tea party wave stunned Democrats and many moderate Republicans, sweeping the GOP into control of the House and changing the balance of power in many statehouses.

But not long after some tea party stars took office, political analysts said, they were forced to adapt to a changing landscape, particularly in states Obama won in 2012, and to the realities of governing.

The tea party also fell out of favor with many people. At its height after the 2010 elections, a CBS News poll found that 31 percent of those surveyed considered themselves tea party supporters. A May survey found just 24 percent identified with the movement.

Facing sagging approval ratings, tea party Republicans, some of whom were elected by slim margins, shifted tactics.

Fla. Gov. Rick Scott, a former health care company executive who won office by attacking the health law and calling for deep cuts to state spending, has embraced the health law and signed one of the largest budgets in state history, complete with pay raises for teachers. Similarly, Gov. John Kasich, R-Ohio, and Rick Snyder, R-Mich., are battling their GOP-dominated legislatures to expand Medicaid, a big part of the health law.

Tea party supporters were most struck by Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants. His personal story and unlikely rise to power made him perhaps the most prominent figure in the movement.

As a Senate candidate in 2010, he denounced as "amnesty" any plan that would offer a path to citizenship for those who were in the country illegally. Yet in recent months, he has emerged as a leader of a bipartisan Senate group that developed a plan that includes such a provision. The plan has been panned by conservatives but ultimately could bolster Rubio's standing with Hispanics, a growing demographic group that has voted overwhelmingly Democratic in recent years.

One sweltering July day, a half-dozen tea party protesters gathered under a tree in front of Rubio's Miami office, seeking shade as they denounced his support for an immigration overhaul. But the protest soon turned into more of a support group, with the four men and two women grousing to each other about how Rubio had turned into a "back-stabber," a "liar" and a "flip-flopper."

Juan Fiol, a real estate broker who organized the protest, kept looking at his phone, waiting for calls from fellow tea party supporters that never came.

"It was supposed to be a big event," he said as he waved a large "Don't Tread on Me" flag.

The movement's top strategists acknowledge the tea party is quieter today, by design. It has matured, they said, from a protest movement to a political movement. Large-scale rallies have given way to strategic letter-writing and phone-banking campaigns to push or oppose legislative agendas in Washington and state capitals. In Michigan and Ohio, for example, leaders have battled the implementation of the president's health law and the adoption of "Common Core" state school standards.

Local activists say they have focused largely on their own communities since Obama's re-election and the ideological drift of some tea party-backed politicians. Many are running for school boards, county commissions and city councils, focusing on issues such as unfunded pension liabilities and sewer system repairs.

"The positions that people are filling at the local levels are more important for the future of the movement and the future of the country," said Jenny Beth Martin, co-founder of the Tea Party Patriots, a national umbrella organization. "It's creating a farm team for the future."

The Republican establishment, however, is concerned about 2014. Party leaders worry about the GOP's most passionate advocates walking away, particularly those supporters angered by the Senate's immigration bill. In a nod to the tea party, business and conservative groups have launched ad campaigns recasting the bill as a national security measure.

The conservative American Action Network spent $750,000 on pro-reform commercials. One ad aimed at Florida voters called the legislation "the toughest border security plan ever passed by Congress" and urged viewers to thank Rubio for "keeping his promise and fighting to secure the border."

National tea party leaders hope to re-energize followers by focusing on two of the movement's chief targets: the Internal Revenue Service and the health law. They said the Obama administration had handed them a recruiting tool when it delayed the law's implementation and when the IRS singled out tea party groups and other conservative political organizations for special scrutiny.

"The very issues that brought us together in the first place are emerging as more center stage than they were in 2009 and 2010," said Matt Kibbe, president of FreedomWorks. "That animates the political conversation and mobilizes our grass roots going into the 2014 election."

Some Republicans are also moving to repair their relationships with the movement.

Rubio recently spoke to about 50 conservative activists and other lawmakers at a meeting of the Senate's tea party caucus. Organizers said he breezed past immigration, instead devoting much of his speech to repealing the health law.

Open Letter to Eric Burdon: Cancel Apartheid Israel Concert

Dear Eric Burdon,

It is with consternation we are aware you are booked to play Israel on August 1, 2013. We would like to inform you about the important means of resistance which has been chosen by Palestinian people to assist in their attainment of justice, rights and freedom after 65 years of oppression in the Palestinian homelands by Israel.

?

We are asking that you join the existing long list of performers of conscience and others [1] who respect the Palestinian-led global call to boycott until Israel.

?

"meets its obligation to recognize the Palestinian people?s inalienable right to self-determination and fully complies with the precepts of international law by:

?

1. Ending its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and dismantling the Wall

2. Recognizing the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; and

3. Respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN resolution 194."[2]

?

We understand you have spent time in the Negev, where at present under the vicious Prawer Plan, ?Israel is demolishing the homes of, and expelling more than 40,000 Indigenous Palestinian Bedouin people against their will in order to "judaize" the Bedouins' homeland.[3] Surely you would support the boycott to protest this terrible act of ethnic cleansing.

?

You have been requested by Palestinians to stand against Israel's apartheid regime, which has been described as worse than that perpetrated by South Africa by several noted South African anti-apartheidists.

?

Baleka Mbete, National Chairperson of the ANC, former Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa (2008-9) and former Speaker of the National Assembly at the 2012 African National Congress (ANC) International Solidarity Conference said that she has been to Palestine herself and that the Israeli regime is not only comparable but ?far worse than Apartheid South Africa.? [4]

?

'As a South African newspaper editor, Mondli Makhanya, put it in after a 2008 trip to the Middle East: "It seems to me that the Israelis would like the Palestinians to disappear. There was never anything like that in our case. The whites did not want the blacks to disappear."'[5]

?

Especially since your music forms part of rock and roll's foundations, Eric, please don't permit yourself and your important legacy to be appropriated in the service of Israel's cynical propaganda to disguise the oppression and obliteration of Palestinian people. ?Join Mira Nair, internationally-acclaimed director of Salaam Bombay!, Monsoon Wedding and Mississippi Masala, who stated just last week:

'I was just invited to Israel as a guest of honor at the Haifa International Film Festival with ?The Reluctant Fundamentalist.? I will not be going to Israel at this time. I will go to Israel when the walls come down. I will go to Israel when occupation is gone. I will go to Israel when the state does not privilege one religion over another. I will go to Israel when Apartheid is over. I will go to Israel, soon. I stand with the [Palestinian Campaign] for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) and the larger Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) Movement.' [6]

?

In order to set a principled example alongside many artists and academics who have cancelled their appearances after being made aware of the boycott [7], we hope you will be persuaded to support the boycott of apartheid Israel wholeheartedly, and at the least, cancel your performance, refuse to cross the picket line and compromise the struggle for freedom of Palestinian people.

?

We are a group, of over 1000 members, representing many countries around the globe, who believe that it is essential for musicians & other artists to heed the call of the PACBI, and join in the boycott of Israel. This is essential in order to work towards justice for the Palestinian people under occupation, and also in refugee camps and in the diaspora throughout the world.

Use These Tips For A Dynamic Internet Marketing Campaign

If you want to draw in as many customers as possible, why not try Internet promotion? It may look simple, but it takes research and dedication in order to make Online marketing work for you. Here are some suggestions to follow, and before you know it, you will be an expert.

Limited time offers and promotions can be beneficial to an eCommerce site?s PageRank. The better your offer, the more outside sites will promote your business. This is similar to a store selling a loss leader item to turn a profit later.

If you are interested in having others link to your website, create a link that is readily available to them on your site. Those who have websites that complement yours will gladly add your link to their site. That ensures that visitors to their site will see, and perhaps click, on the link.

TIP! You need to use everything you can in Internet marketing. If you or your company falls behind the curve, your potential customers will catch on and begin to doubt your abilities.

When you are using signatures, link them to your site or email. If you post to a forum, add your link to your signature so that it will be seen every time one of your posts is read. Also link to your website at the end of every email you send. Signatures are a great way to spread the word about your site as well as increasing its page rank in search engines. Create intrigue with interesting text so the readers will feel the need to click your link.

Give your customers a reason to visit your website. You don?t need to create an entire encyclopedia, but having a good amount of information that your customers can easily access is important. To increase the potential to your website add content that will help your prospective customers, such as articles, product reviews and other information pertaining to your product.

Post images and video relevant to your business to increase interest in your website. When your site or blog features a video, you have a stronger way to keep your customers?s focus on the site and your products. Using an interesting picture and title will get a customer?s attention.

TIP! It is vital to have a client mailing list. Post notification on your website to collect emails.

Remember to use emphasis tools when you are creating text for your website. You can enhance the visibility and importance of words and phrases by making them bold, underlining them, or italicizing them. You can get your point across if you find out how your customers like being communicated with.

It can be easy to overspend on advertising. If it will not work for you, do not spend money on it. Banner advertising will give you an appropriate return on your investment in the long term.

It is not necessary to spend a lot of money on a consultant for your marketing business as there are many resources available online to help you decide on your marketing approach. There are forums where you can interact with other business professionals, as well as conferences and articles.

TIP! You need to research and treat Internet marketing serious. If you can find a mentor that has gone through the process, they may be able to provide you with invaluable information from their experience.

If you?re going to use banners on your website, use ones that don?t look like the typical banners you see elsewhere. Do not let them know that it is really a link. Many people won?t click banners if they look like banners, so this can entice them.

A good way in which to get the humanitarians on your side in an online business is to make sure that you?re donating a portion of your proceeds to some type of charity. Clearly advertise this to the visitors, but don?t do it excessively. Even a small donation can increase your sales, as people like to know their money is going to a good cause.

Tailor your banner ads to deviate from what people would expect a normal banner ad to look like. If you improve the appearance of your banner ad, you will be able to get more people to click it.

TIP! With any kind of marketing, you are going to run into setbacks. The best thing to do is deal with them and keep on going.

Know how to code HTML tags. These tags indicate the important content on your page and will display it in different levels of bold. The content you emphasize through HTML tags will be picked up by search engines. Be sure to highlight your critical keywords.

Try incorporating different headlines into your site and on any E-zines you put out. Headlines should contain catch phrases and showcase the items for are offering. You may even want to abandon the headline altogether and replace it with a graphic of your product. Graphics create a professional headline that sells with images instead of text.

TIP! Creating a FAQ section on your website will make running it a more satisfactory venture for you. It will also please your potential customers because they will be able to locate answers to their concerns quickly and easily.

If you have free material, consider advertising it on sites or directories that showcase free services and products. Several directories, for example, have free e-zines. There are many resources to get free e-zines, e-books and other free infomation.

People respect those in power. Don?t be afraid to let it be known that you are indeed the head honcho. Do not hesitate to call yourself a president or a CEO.

As you can see, online marketing is a great way to promote products. You really need to figure out what you are supposed to do in order to be a successful Internet marketer. The following information may help to further your Internet marketing education.

TIP! Take time to learn web design basics. You can find online courses that will teach you HTML, CSS and many other programs that assist with web design.

Outrage after Iranian President calls Israel a 'wound'

Iranian protestors burn an effigy painted in US flags

Iran's newly elected president, Hassan Rouhani, has caused a stir after being quoted likening Israel to a ''wound'' inflicted on the Muslim world that ''should be removed''.

Iranian state media later said Dr Rouhani had been misquoted and a video released by Iran's Press TV seemed to support a more mild official translation of the comments he made during the annual Al-Quds Day ceremony to demonstrate solidarity with Palestinians.

But the clarification came too late for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who claimed it proved the new Iranian regime was not as moderate as some in the West may hope.

''Rouhani's true face has been revealed earlier than expected,'' Mr Netanyahu said. ''The president there has changed, but the goal of the regime has not.''

Iranian state media maintained Dr Rouhani had called the occupation of Muslim lands, mainly Jerusalem, a ''wound'' and had said nothing about anything being ''removed''.

An Israeli spokesman said that Israel believed the original interpretation reflected Iran's true ''extremist agenda''.

Microsoft Unveils Enforcement United, Wants You To Be Big Brother For Them

by Matt Hawkins

sprinklebear

Xbox Live, like every other online community, has long struggled with troublemakers and rabble-rousers, otherwise known as trolls. Microsoft maintains their various codes of conduct with due diligence, but they need help. Specifically, your help.

MS has just unveiled a new beta program called Enforcement United, which asks everyday users to be help keep tabs on fellow members. Basically, it allows ever members to snitch on others, whom they believe to be in violation of the rules.

Now, anyone who has frequented popular message boards may instantly be reminded of that one moderator who allows power to get to his or her head. But MS has thought of that as well; violators are fed to some kind of algorithm that makes the final call, by also considering in a number of other factors. Ultimately:

?We have built in a series of carefully designed controls so no individual participant can wield unchecked power over another. The system will also continually calibrate itself to understand how reliable the data is and the sources it comes from.?

At this early point, offensive gamertags are the only real things that a deputized XBLA member will be able to report on, but responsibilities will expand over time. And what does one get for helping the community?

Since it's part of the recently introduced Xbox Community Ambassadors, being Big Brother on the behalf of Microsoft can score you freebies like Avatar accessories. One has to wonder if one said freebie will be a badge, to let everyone know that you're the law.

Walk for water charity cut short after 5,000 miles

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) ? After 5,000 miles and 18 months, Amy Russell is done walking.

The 24-year-old Manchester native and founder of the charity Walking4Water has ended her trek through Africa, six months and 2,000 miles earlier than planned.

Health problems and political unrest in her planned destination of Egypt caused her and walking partner Aaron Tharp to stop their walk, she said. They plan to fly home on Sunday.

"I guess 'officially' we ended in Negele, Ethiopia," she said via Facebook chat from Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital. "Random town ... but the point where everything plus people throwing rocks at us every day just, where we decided to be done."

Russell and Tharp, 26, of Trenton, Ohio, were the last two walkers standing from a journey that was supposed to include about 10 people.

It was designed to call attention to the lack of access to clean water in developing countries. The walk has raised about $10,000 for charity: water, a New York-based group that funds drinking water projects in developing countries.

Most of the other would-be walkers backed out before Russell's journey began in South Africa in February 2012. A third member of the team, 25-year-old Marty Yoder of Elkhart, Ind., who had been driving the support vehicle, went home with health problems when the team was in Mozambique.

That left Russell and Tharp with their shoes and backpacks. They camped or stayed with missionaries or local families, traveling north through South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia. Russell went through seven pairs of shoes and lost about 40 pounds.

"The biggest challenge was probably just living in constant instability, we never stayed in one place very long," Russell said. "So every day, we had to find food, had to find water, had to find a place to stay. Always dealing with a language barrier, always changing circumstances. Dealing with that mentally was probably the hardest."

They had physical problems as well. Russell contracted malaria in Mozambique. They both got sick a number of times from drinking brackish water, and Tharp developed knee problems, Russell said. They also spent one night in Kenya huddled in a tent with a machete after noticing lions in nearby bushes.

Russell called it the most terrifying experience of her life.

"Throughout the remainder of the night, we heard yet another lion, another elephant, a two-minute lion-elephant showdown, and a couple hyenas," Tharp wrote on his blog. "Morning never looked so beautiful!"

But it was the people that Russell said will leave a lasting impact on her.

She recalled a day she spent in a Kenyan village, going with other women and children to gather water from a hole that was a 15-minute walk away.

"From this 'puddle', maybe you could call it a small pond, we filled the jerry-cans, and walked back with them," she said. "This water, murkier than potato soup, was what they drank directly from, without any fears or qualms."

Russell is disappointed she wasn't able to walk all 7,000 miles, but she's proud she made it as far as she did.

"Instead of transforming everyone else's life (I'm not sure I made a huge impact for others), it seems my life has been the one transformed in the process," she said.

Russell hasn't decided what she will do next. She will begin looking for a job and is considering graduate school.

For now, she just wants to be home, perhaps with a pizza.

"I definitely plan on doing talks, sharing the experience if people are interested," she said. "Not sure writing a book is a good idea, but haven't eliminated the option completely. NO MORE WALKING lol."
