Pacific Science Center is committed to driving science education forward in Washington State, and inspiring today?s youth to further their education and go into careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.? We offer a wide variety of programs, including standards-based formal and informal science education programs and an award-winning environmental education center.? Volunteers are currently needed to assist with the Science After School Program. Science After School connects kids and science in eye-opening, hands-on hours of exploration! From physics to forensics and animals to engineering, young scientists are guided through experiments with roller coasters, rockets, insects, fingerprints, and more. Each series consists of six 1-hour lessons, built on revised Washington State science standards and designed to enrich after school time with fun, innovative experiments right at local elementary schools. After School Program volunteers will support Outreach Education trained educators. Reports To:?????????????????????????? Outreach Education Staff
Position Start Date:????????? ?? late-September/OctoberSchedule:????????????????????????????? 1 - 3 weekday afternoons a week???Assist teachers by helping unload/load materials from the van???Distribute and set up programming materials???Observe and assist with programming???Interact with students and school staff???Be a positive representative of Pacific Science Center and Science On Wheels ??? Pass a criminal background check?? Commit to volunteering one - three afternoons a week through June 2013??? Provide three references (one or more being a professional reference)???? Undergraduate or graduate studies in education, science, or teaching a plus?????Bilingual a plus Abilities and Personal Characteristics?????Ability to lift and move 50 lbs?????Desire to work with and inspire children ?????Enthusiasm for science and science education?????Courteous and professional manner?????Ability to exercise sound judgment and flexibility should difficult situations arise?????Excellent oral communication skills?????Ability to present oneself in a professional manner with regards to personal appearance and hygiene?????Smiling team player, with a pleasant disposition and service orientation?????Must wear Science Center issued uniform vestCompleted applications can be sent to: volunteers@pacsci.org or mailed to:Please be sure to note on the application that you are interested in the Science After School Volunteer position.
