REMSEN -- Remsen-Union watched an early 5-0 lead dissolve into an 11-9, eight-inning loss to Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn in War Eagle Conference play Wednesday."They hit the ball pretty well," R-U coach Heather Youde said. "We made a couple errors which we haven't had this season, but we kept our bats there. (MMC) just pulled it out in the end."
The Lady Rockets plated five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead, but the Eagles battled back.
The contest was tied at 9-9 after seven innings and MMC tagged R-U pitcher Kim Schroeder for a pair of runs in the top of the eighth to collect the win.
Schroeder allowed 11 runs - six earned - on 10 hits and three walks. She struck out four in the loss, which was just the third of the year for R-U.
Rachel West led the offensive attack with a 2-for-4 performance that included a double and an RBI.
Stacie Bortscheller went 2-for-5 with two RBI while Taylor Weiler went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Allison Schreiner went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, Brittany Weikel was 1-for-5 with an RBI and Brittany Sudtelgte went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and two RBI.
Courtney Loutsch hit an RBI triple in the first inning, Hailey Loutsch went 1-for-4 with an RBI and Kylie Gries went 1-for-3.
R-U (4-3, 3-3) plays at Spalding Catholic in Granville on Friday.
