Description:

Position Activities

  • Directs and manages operations at NYP and NYH-Queens radiation oncology physician practices. Monitors operational and productivity metrics.
  • Manages administrative functions of the department's divisions and faculty including academic and medical staff appointments, privileges, managed care enrollments, compensation and reimbursements.
  • Oversees all revenue cycle functions. Monitors patient collections. Identifies, explains and correct variances. Works with POBO on issues related to the department.
  • Manages non academic staff including clinical, administrative, billing and research teams. Handles related HR issues including hiring, development, training, terminations, evaluations and discipline.
  • Provides administrative leadership for all department quality and compliance functions including QA QI program, billing compliance, research compliance and all applicable governmental standards.
  • Directs the financial operations of the Department and prepares and manages annual WMC and NYPH budgets; Negotiate joint budget and MSAs. Defends and finalizes budget. Oversees all day-to-day financial operations of the Department as directed by the Chairman. Responsible for disposition of all income and expenditures. Manages Clinical practice (Physician Organization) funds. Education, research, clinical areas and restricted funds. Oversees all accounts and resolves any discrepancies.
  • Performs long range and operational planning for the Department in conjunction with the Chairman and faculty and administrative colleagues (i.e., services, staffing, new ventures). Prepares business plans, feasibility studies, and ad hoc analyses financial projections to support decision-making. Formulates policies and develops plans, programs, processes and procedures to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Works with outside companies/agencies, WMC University Counsel, NYPH Legal Affairs/Risk Management to finalize terms of agreements (MSAs, new ventures, new vendors/clinical trials, industrial agreements). Negotiates and coordinates all WMC renovation and space issues.
  • Coordinates space, staffing and administrative needs, oversees finances and operations; and resolves problems as they arise.
  • Coordinates departmental research activities; providing administrative guidance to investigators, overseeing disclosure and licensing agreements. Works closely with RASP, IRB, IAACUC to implement and comply with current WMC, NIH and extramural funding agency rules and regulations.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree in appropriate field is required.
  • 5 years of senior management experience gained within a large clinical department of an academic medical center, a faculty practice plan, or large multi-specialty group practice.
  • Strong operational, financial, analytical and strategic planning skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the business aspects of group practice management. Ability to manage cross functional multisite teams.
  • Proven effectiveness in building and maintaining a strong rapport with physicians, particularly in an academic medical center environment.
  • Demonstrated appreciation of teaching, research and clinical care delivery to the tripartite mission of an academic healthcare environment.
Highly Desired Requirements
  • A master's degree in health administrations, business administration, finance or related field is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in physician billing and reimbursement is expected.
  • Track record of working effectively and collaboratively with hospital leadership.
  • Familiarity with information systems, regulatory compliance issues and business operations, particularly for academic physician practices.
  • Physician advocate who has a strong customer-service focus.
  • Proven ability to drive a consensus process to effect significant organizational change.
