A Sleek, Minimalist Aluminum Wallet With a Handy Eject Button

A Sleek, Minimalist Aluminum Wallet With a Handy Eject Button

An ultra-thin wallet is the only way to avoid bulging pockets if you've opted for skintight jeans. But what good is a sleek wallet if it's next to impossible to get your cards out? That's why the Secrid wallet features an actual eject button at the bottom, forcing your credit and debit cards up so they're easy to remove from its featureless aluminum body.

The $40 Secrid can hold six cards in total, and for the stylish and paranoid types, it also blocks RFID signals stopping roaming hackers from stealing your card info. It will even prevent pickpockets from accessing your ID, assuming they've never operated an eject button before. [ThinkGeek]

First Particle Comprising Four Quarks Discovered

anyone care to put a meaning for this into layman's terms?

To my mind the issue is color balance. No, really. Quarks have a property called "color" (not in any way related to visible colors), which needs to be balanced in order to get a stable particle. (It's a consequence of the non-abelian SU(3) gauge group of the strong nuclear force. Aren't you glad you asked?)

The upshot is that to get a stable particle, you need to have a set of blue+anti-blue, or red+anti-red, or green+anti-green, or blue+green+red or anti-blue+anti-green+anti-red quarks. This is the origin of the 2 quark (color+anti-color) or 3 quark (all colors) particle. (Of course, this is a simplification - because of gluons the colors of the particles are constantly swapping around, but in ways that maintain the color balance.)

Having four quarks upsets this notion. You need some way of balancing the color, and the "traditional" ways of doing it won't work. My guess is that this new particle is probably something like a blue+anti-blue+red+anti-red. As the news article mentions, it's apparently still up in the air whether this should really be considered a true four quark particle, or simply two particles (blue+anti-blue & red+anti-red) in very close association.

Exclusive: Talisman considers sale of Eagle Ford assets - sources

By Michael Erman and Greg Roumeliotis

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Canadian oil and gas company Talisman Energy Inc is exploring the sale of its shale assets in the Eagle Ford basin in south Texas, hoping it could raise as much as $2 billion, two people familiar with the matter said on Monday.

Talisman is working with Royal Bank of Canada and has reached out to a few potential buyers, including private equity, to gauge interest, one of the sources added.

The people asked not to be identified because the matter is confidential. They cautioned that the talks are at a very early stage and may not lead to a sale.

Talisman and Royal Bank of Canada declined to comment.

Talisman owns about 74,000 acres of land in the Eagle Ford, where it has a joint venture with Norway's Statoil ASA , according to the company's website. Its production in the region averaged 15 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (mboe/d) in 2012, up from 5 mboe/d in 2011. Its full-year guidance is currently for around 30 mboe/d.

Talisman has announced that it is considering the sale of $2 billion to $3 billion of non-core assets. But the company's holdings in the liquids-rich Eagle Ford have generally been considered among the company's best and therefore core.

Talisman has said it plans to continue to develop its holdings in the region, where it ended 2012 with a significant backlog of wells. It said that constraints with infrastructure have hampered the pace of development and has also worked to speed up the drilling process and cut costs.

One of the sources said that outperformance by peers in the Eagle Ford could be adding to pressure on the Calgary, Alberta-based company. Based on their agreement, Talisman will transfer operatorship of the eastern part of the Eagle Ford shale play to Statoil this year. Talisman entered into a joint venture with Statoil in the Eagle Ford in 2010.

Shale gas - natural gas trapped in layered rock, rather than porous reservoirs - has revolutionized the U.S. gas market by offering an abundant new supply source, driving prices down.

Like many of its peers, Talisman has ratcheted back spending on dry gas in North America, as prices for the fuel have hovered around $3 per million British thermal units, and has gone on the hunt for more lucrative liquids-rich prospects.

Talisman Chief Executive Hal Kvisle, who took over as chief executive last September following the abrupt departure of John Manzoni, is refocusing the company's sprawling global operations to concentrate on North and South America and Southeast Asia and is shifting its production away from low-value natural gas.

Talisman has said that it is looking at its strategic options on its positions in the Montney and Duvernay shales in Canada, as well as its stake in the Ocensa pipeline in Colombia.

Kvisle has said he expected all its assets outside its core regions could potentially be sold, including its properties in Norway's North Sea and its new discoveries in Iraq's Kurdistan region.

The company completed the sale of a 49 percent stake in its North Sea operations to Sinopec for $1.5 billion in December.

Talisman shares closed at C$11.84 on the Toronto Stock Exchange on Monday, giving the company a market value of C$12.3 billion ($12.1 billion).

Netflix boosts original programing with DreamWorks deal

(Reuters) - Video streaming service Netflix Inc is beefing up its original programing menu through a multi-year deal with DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc, the maker of movies such as Shrek, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda.

DreamWorks said the deal, which involves 300 hours of new programing, is a cornerstone of a major initiative to expand its television production and distribution.

The agreement is Netflix's largest for original programing, the companies said in a statement.

Online streaming companies such as Netflix, Amazon and Hulu are spending heavily on content as they compete with each other for a piece of the fast-growing market for movies and television shows delivered over the Internet.

In early June, Amazon.com Inc wrote its largest-ever check for a subscription-streaming deal, securing hundreds of mostly childrens' TV programs from Viacom Inc for its internet video service.

Netflix is trying to gain new subscribers with original series including the Kevin Spacey drama "House of Cards".

The company brought back cult television comedy "Arrested Development" in May, allowing viewers to see the entire 15-episode season together, harnessing the trend of viewers 'binge-watching' TV series online and through DVDs.

Netflix stopped streaming popular programing from Viacom's Nickelodeon in May following the expiration of a contract.

Netflix will premiere the new DreamWorks shows in all the territories in which it operates. The first of the new series announced on Monday is expected to be available in 2014.

The two companies said in February a series called "Turbo: F.A.S.T," based on the upcoming DreamWorks film "Turbo," will debut exclusively on Netflix in December.

Blackhawks scratch Hossa from Game 3 of Cup finals

BOSTON (AP) ? The Chicago Blackhawks have scratched forward Marian Hossa from Monday's nights Stanley Cup finals game against the Boston Bruins.

Hossa was tied for the team lead with 15 points in the playoffs. He was third in the regular season on the Blackhawks with 17 goals.

The Blackhawks said on their Twitter account that "something apparently happened during warmups."

Ben Smith was in the lineup in his place. Smith, who played at Boston College, appeared in one game for Chicago during the regular season.

Heat, Spurs set for pivotal Game 5 of NBA Finals

SAN ANTONIO (AP) ? Tony Parker's hamstring, not Dwyane Wade's knee, is the current chief injury concern.

Manu Ginobili, not Chris Bosh, is mired in the slump of the moment.

Things change quickly at the NBA Finals, and with everything suddenly seeming right with the Miami Heat, it's up to the San Antonio Spurs to change them back Sunday night in Game 5.

"It is a must-win. We don't want to go back down there down a game with two games remaining at their house," Spurs star Tim Duncan said Saturday.

"Obviously, we lose this game, we're not giving up or anything, but we want to go back up with a chance to finish there. Huge pressure if we have to go back there and try to win two."

The Heat evened the series with a 109-93 victory Thursday night, setting up what's often the pivotal moment of the finals. Of the 27 times the series was tied at 2-2, the Game 5 winner went on to win 20 of them.

"I think that's what everyone would like, 2-2 in the finals for Game 5," LeBron James said. "We are excited about the opportunity. We have another opportunity to win on someone else's floor."

It's the same situation Miami was in two years ago, losing Game 5 in Dallas. But the Heat also had dropped the previous game, and James was struggling through a poor series by his standards.

Everything looks good for the Heat as they arrive at this stage now. James was dominant in Game 4 with 33 points and 11 rebounds, and Wade scored 32 points, not appearing to be bothered at all by a painful right knee that had limited his effectiveness in the postseason.

With Bosh breaking out with 20 points and 13 rebounds, everything that was a problem for the Heat a few days ago no longer looks to be the case. Instead, the obstacles look to be piling up for the Spurs.

"It's a part of the playoffs," Wade said. "There's always high moments. There's always low moments. There's moments when you have guys who are in a slump, et cetera. Guys who come out of it. Great story lines. It's all of it."

The teams returned to practice Saturday after taking a day off, and though Parker said his strained right hamstring was feeling better and he hoped to be close to 100 percent by the game, he later made that sound impossible.

"My hamstring can tear any time now," he said. "So if it was the regular season, I would be resting like 10 days. But now it's the NBA Finals. If it gets a tear, it's life."

Ginobili is averaging 7.5 points on 34.5 percent shooting in the series, making only three of his 16 3-point attempts. Parker said he's still confident in his longtime teammate, and coach Gregg Popovich said he wasn't worried about either player ? about all he did say on a day when he was a man of even fewer words than usual.

During his brief responses to eight questions, he added that he wasn't surprised by the Heat's lineup change in Game 4, but wouldn't say whether the Spurs would do anything different Sunday.

"I'd hate to be trite and say anything is possible. Your question demands my triteness," he answered.

The last three games have all been blowouts, a somewhat surprising result that wasn't so surprising to James. When their Big Three all play like they Thursday, the Heat can make even a good team like the Spurs look pretty bad.

"If we play our game, if we force turnovers, we rebound, execute offensively and don't turn the ball over, we can win against anybody," James said. "We're a confident bunch. But we're going against a great team that's going to make adjustments as well. And that's why it's a 2-2 series right now."

The Heat won only twice in San Antonio in their first 24 seasons, and now can win in back-to-back games, which would give the defending champions two chances to close out the Spurs back home. Game 6 is Tuesday night.

But the team that won 27 consecutive games during the regular season, the second-longest winning streak in NBA history, hasn't been able to win two in a row since taking the last four games of the second round and the opener of the Eastern Conference finals.

The Spurs haven't been any better at maintaining momentum, following their two victories in this series with turnover-filled losses by a combined 35 points, and Duncan said their focus has to be sharper.

"That's what it's all about right now, is that focus for a longer period of time. Taking care of the ball, understanding what you want to do and less defensive mistakes, and for whatever reason it seems like the team that's coming off a loss has done a better job of sustaining that for a longer period of time," Duncan said.

"I hope that's the case for us tomorrow, but we have to find a way to alleviate that, whether it's a win or a loss."

The Spurs have never lost a Game 5 in the NBA Finals, including victories in 2003 and '05 when the series were tied 2-2. Sunday's game could be the last time Duncan, Parker and Ginobili play at home in the finals, and they want to go out a winner.

"This game is huge," Ginobili said. "We don't want to go to Miami knowing that we have to win both. Going there to win one of the two is a different situation. So Game 5, regardless of where you play, it's huge for you at 2-2. We've seen it too many times. We really want to win this one."
