CALAIS, Maine (AP) -- The new president at Washington County Community College is carrying on a family tradition.

When Joseph Cassidy became president of the Calais college on July 1, he replaced his uncle, Bill Cassidy, who served as president from 2003 to 2009 and again for the past school year.

Joseph Cassidy previously taught education at the college for nine years, and his father, Vinton Cassidy, was a drafting instructor there for 34 years before retiring this spring.

Between the three of them, the Cassidys have 67 years of service in the Maine Community College System.

System President John Fitzsimmons says the Cassidy family has a long and proud tradition of giving their time and talent to Washington County.
